Our assistant boss immediately set his sights on May's showpiece after the bitter disappointment of the 2-1 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.
"We've got to bounce back, of course we have," he said. "We've got Sunderland coming up, United and then Chelsea in the FA Cup. If we beat Chelsea then we're a step away from another final.
"We've got to give it everything to get back here and put it right because we've thrown away a great chance to get into Europe next season.
"But the good thing about football is that although we're hurting bad now, we can bounce straight back by getting back here for the FA Cup Final in May."
Rovers' matchwinner Andy Cole stole the headlines on Monday but our story from the final was one of missed opportunities and a penalty appeal turned down in the closing stages.
"It just wasn't our day, was it?" reflected John. "They've won the cup and you've got to say well done to them.
"We're disappointed because we had the chances. Their goalkeeper was named man-of-the-match and that's shows how well he did. To be fair they fought well, battled well and sneaked it.
"You get to a cup final and one team has to lose - this time it was us. We shouldn't have lost but we did.
"So the next step for us is to beat Sunderland on Saturday, then try to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup and push on for the next final."
John Gorman is determined to bury the bad memories of Sunday's Worthington Cup Final by returning to Cardiff in the FA Cup Final.
