Joe Jordan says Brad Friedel has made a 'massive contribution' to the team as we prepare to face the goalkeeper’s former club Villa on Monday.
Brad joined us from Villa Park in the summer and has worn the gloves in all of our Premier League matches so far this season.
That means he’s stretched his amazing run of consecutive matches to 276 in the Premier League.
The former USA international underlined his importance with a Man of the Match display last time out at Fulham, where he made a string of saves as we held on under pressure for a 3-1 victory, making it seven wins and a draw in our last eight league matches.
First team coach Joe felt Brad’s performance at Craven Cottage summed-up what he’s brought to the club.
“It was highlighted against Fulham because he had to make important saves at important times,” said Joe.
“His performances this season were summed-up in that 90 minutes.
“He makes the saves because he is in the right position and with the experience he has he reads the game. He gets his body in the way and his angles right.
“He makes it very difficult for forwards. Clint Dempsey went around Brad in the final 20 minutes and got to such an angle that when he had the shot, Ledley could clear it.
“Brad didn’t commit himself in a way where it was going to be a penalty kick, but he did enough to make the player go away, but still stayed on the field.
“It is a fantastic thing to use that experience. He gives composure not just to the back four, but to the team.
“For me, he sends that out to the defence and the team and that is a massive contribution. There is an admiration as well. The players know they have a great goalkeeper behind them.”
