Job done for Under-21s

Posted on 16 October 2012  - 16:21

Chris Ramsey was pleased with what he described as a 'competent, professional performance' as our Under-21s beat Southampton 4-2 in the Barclays U21 Premier League on Monday.

Cristian Ceballos led the way with a hat-trick as we stormed out of the traps at Southampton's Staplewood training centre.

The winger opened the scoring in the sixth minute and Jon Obika doubled the lead two minutes later.

Southampton pulled a goal back just before half-time but another quickfire double from Cristian completed his hat-trick with goals in the 55th and 62nd minutes to put the issue beyond doubt.

The lads are now unbeaten in four in Group B of the Barclays U21 League, with 16 goals in those matches.

"We started well and never really looked back," said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach. "We created plenty of chances, got ahead early and controlled the game.

"It was a very good performance by the unit, with some excellent individual performances as well including Cristian, who worked hard and got his rewards with his hat-trick.

"That was his comeback match after an ankle injury and we were delighted with his application.

"The most important thing is we continued to play the way we wanted to play, rather than changing to suit how the game might be going or to suit other teams.

"We played some very attractive football and we won't stop doing that in these matches, win or lose we'll approach them in the same way."

Our thanks to Southampton FC for the photographs...
