Jermaine Jenas hailed the collective spirit of the side as we toppled Arsenal to book a place at Wembley in the Carling Cup Final.

JJ played a huge role over the two legs. The midfielder opened the scoring as the first leg at the Emirates ended in a 1-1 draw and on a Tuesday night to remember at the Lane, got us on our way again after just three minutes and created two more goals in the memorable 5-1 victory.

The aggregate 6-2 scoreline sees us back at Wembley for the first time since 1999 and up against either Everton or Chelsea on February 24.

"It was a fantastic night," reflected JJ, named man of the match by Sky Sports. "The lads were really pumped up for this one, we knew what a big game it was, we were desperate to get to a final and did it emphatically.

"Collectively, as a team, we were magnificent. Back-to-front we stuck together, we knew Arsenal would have a lot of the ball and when you stick together like we did, that's the result.

"We knew with the overall score at 1-1 if it stayed 0-0 and went to extra time we would go through but that's not what we wanted. We wanted to go out there and win the game. We're always positive and this was no different."

JJ struck after two minutes, 46 seconds and smiled at the suggestion - with recent encounters against Arsenal in mind - that we scored too soon!

"That can sometimes be the case, especially against a team like Arsenal, but we stuck to the task at the back and were able to keep breaking on them.We looked dangerous and were clinical," said JJ, who added that it was about being in control of emotions.

"The gaffer drove home the fact that everything we did had to be controlled whether it was aggression, attacking play - we couldn't go crazy out there, we had to control it.

"But we've a lot of experience now of this type of cup-tie. Everyone remembers the Sevilla game for instance last season when we went flying out at them in the second leg of the quarter-final at home and got punished. We couldn't afford something like that to happen again.

"A Wembley final? It sounds great, doesn't it? I can't wait!"
