FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE

Aston Villa U17s 2-1 Spurs

A late goal denied our Under-17s a deserved point against the league leaders at the weekend.

Villa struck five minutes from time to complete their comeback after Danny Jones handed us the lead at the start of the second half.

Coach Jimmy Neighbour takes up the story: "It was an even first half and both teams played some neat football without really threatening.

"Villa had the best chance of the half but their centre forward headed wide and it was 0-0 at half-time.

"We started the second half brightly, penned them in and in that spell we took the lead when Danny Jones finished Kieran McKenna's cross from the left. We deserved it.

"Unfortunately Villa got back into it after about 65 minutes when they had an unmarked header from a free-kick that Nicky Eyre did well to save but they scored from the rebound.

"We had one or two more chances after that and they actually got the winner from our corner, it was cleared and they broke, left us a bit exposed and the forward had a fairly easy chance.

"It was a shame but I was pleased with the boys. We had a young team out and they are top of the league."
