Jermain Defoe joined some of the biggest names in English Football to launch Your Game 2007.

The tournament was launched in West London and travel the country between April and June, around ten cities which will host a series of football and music festivals as 400 teams of young people bid to qualify for a national final.

Giving young people the opportunity to play more sport is a subject very close to Jermain’s heart. “I remember playing on the streets in East London and I know I’ve come a long way so this is good as this helping young kids get off the streets, giving them a chance to play football and do what they enjoy doing - it’s great to be involved.” The tournament is a partnership between the BBC and the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity but reflects much of the work the Club and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation are already doing in and around North London.

And just as with many of the projects the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation supports, Your Game is not just about football. The tournament aims to offer chances for young people to learn new skills and employment opportunities.

There will be free courses in coaching and referring and free community sports qualifications on offer while the BBC will be giving young people the chance to try radio commentary, television production and dj-ing. Meanwhile, the Football Foundation will be on hand to provide financial support to groups who want to increase the participation in the community.
