‘JD’ received a pass from Tom Huddlestone and faced with two defenders, faked to shoot with his right foot and in the same motion, dragged the ball onto his left foot and lashed into the top corner.
“I’d been practising that drag onto my left foot with Ricardo all week,” revealed Jermain. “He said to me beforehand ‘you’ve got to try it’ and it worked out perfectly, so thanks to Ricardo on that one!
“It’s always nice to get that first goal and all the lads would tell you same,” he continued. “But you know what I’m like, even in training I just love to score goals.
“I feel sharp, I feel fit and it’s all about fitness at this stage.”
Meanwhile, JD said it was a ‘special’ time to be at Spurs. “The squad is so strong and to be at the club now is special.
“Look at the goals myself, Robbie and Berba scored last season and now we’ve added Darren Bent, for me, he’s one of the best finishers around.
“His movement is great and he’s always going to score goals as he proved that at Ipswich and Charlton. There are certainly a lot of goals in the team.
“People know when I get my chance I will always try my best, I always want to score goals and work hard to do that.”
Finally, Jermain was touched by the reception he received from the fans as he came out to warm-up for the second half. “The fans were great - it was quite emotional!”
