The striker missed our epic Champions League encounters against the Italian giants in 2010 after picking up an ankle injury in September, 2010.
He later returned to score in our final group match at FC Twente as we reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, eventually bowing out to Real Madrid.
Now we face Inter again in the Round of 16 of the Europa League with the first leg at the Lane tonight (Thursday, March 7) and return at the San Siro on Thursday week, March 14.
“It’s a massive game because it’s Inter Milan, an incredible football club, a club that has won everything,” said Jermain, who returned from injury off the bench against Arsenal on Sunday.
“For me, it means even more because I missed the Champions League matches through injury. Obviously, that was a big disappointment but I’ve got another opportunity to play them now and I’m looking forward to it.”
It’s a new-look Inter team from the reigning European champions we faced in 2010 – no Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Eto’o, Sneijder - but they sit fourth in Serie A, enjoyed a run of 10 straight wins earlier in the season and beat FC Cluj 5-0 on aggregate in the Round of 32.
“They have lots of new players, but we all know it will be tough,” said JD. “Italian teams are always so organised, clever, tactically always right. But tactically, our manager is up there with the best, so we’ll be prepared for this tie.”
