Jermain Defoe has spoken of his respect for Barcelona as he prepares to face the European champions at Wembley tonight (Friday, July 24).

We line-up against the La Liga champions in the Wembley Cup at 8pm before taking on Celtic at 4pm on Sunday.

Barcelona underlined their billing as the ‘best team in the world' by outclassing Manchester United in the final of last season's Champions League.

"I've got massive respect for them - when you look at what they've achieved last season it's unbelievable," said Jermain.

"They've got a great manager and great players so I'm looking forward to the game and I know all the lads and the fans are as well. It will be a great test for us."

The suggestion going into the tournament is that we'll be further ahead in our pre-season plans having already played friendlies against Exeter, Bournemouth and Peterborough.

""We've played a few games and been back in training for a while, so I suppose we'll have the edge, but those players can still keep the ball!" countered a smiling JD. "They have fantastic players.

"Pre-season has been good so far and everyone's been putting the work in. The boys look really sharp in training which is always important so after these two games, these two big clubs, hopefully it'll push us on as we're coming closer to the start of the Premier League."
