Jermain Defoe lent his support to Arrival Education’s ‘Success for Life’ talent development programme through our commercial partners and Cup shirt sponsors Investec, the specialist bank and asset manager.
The striker welcomed 15 young people between the ages of 14-17 to our Spurs Lodge training ground and took part in an inspirational Q&A session on his career and success as a footballer.
It formed part of the ‘Success for Life’ scheme, run by Investec’s charitable partner Arrival Education, which seeks to develop young people from challenging London communities into the high performers, wealth creators and social innovators of the future.
JD said: “The young people I met are from tough backgrounds and have had tough upbringings so it was good to meet them and have a chat with them.
“I have been lucky in my life to be able to achieve great things. I appreciate that young people look up to me and it’s therefore important to give something back.
“My advice to them is that hard work and dedication equals success. If you work hard, luck will come, and if you stay dedicated and not get sidetracked, then you can achieve your goals.”
‘Success for Life’ students interact with staff through talks, professional success workshops and one-on-one coaching and development, all taking place at Investec's meeting rooms in the City.
As part of the programme, they develop the right mindsets for success, gaining access to opportunities that will develop their skills, emotional intelligence and social awareness.
