The much-hyped Belgian side, whose talent pool boasts a plethora of top Premier League stars including Jan and our midfield duo Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli, is in a fantastic position to secure qualification for the finals in 2014 going into tonight’s trip to Croatia.
Leading Group A, the Belgians’ closest pursuers are this evening’s opponents – and a win or a draw will be enough to ensure they cannot be caught at the top of the standings, thus winning the group with a game to spare.
But even if they leave Croatia empty handed tonight, they have another chance to make sure of qualification for the finals as group winners when they host Wales on Tuesday.
But Jan insists his side won’t be easing off the gas heading into the home straight.
“If we draw then we qualify, but of course we go there to win, and if we do that we go to the World Cup,” the 26-year-old summed up.
“We approach every game to win, and we want to get stronger every game.”
Jan admits it would be nice to be able to host Wales on Tuesday having already secured qualification tonight – especially as the game will be played in front of Belgium’s own fans.
“On Tuesday we have Wales, and it will be a nice game if we are already qualified. That’s what we will try and do – we will try and qualify against Croatia. Then it will be a nice game for the Belgian supporters on Tuesday.”
