Jan Vertonghen's World Cup dream is quickly becoming a reality with Belgium.

The defender and Spurs team-mates Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele are within touching distance of qualifying for next summer’s finals in Brazil.

Belgium are five points clear in Group A of European qualifying with two matches remaining.

A draw in their next match away to Croatia on October 11 will secure a place in the 2014 tournament.

Even if they lost that match, victory in their final group fixture at home to Wales would be enough to win the group for that automatic place in Brazil.

Friday night was another to remember for the highly-rated Belgium squad as they won 2-0 against Scotland while at the same time, nearest-rivals Croatia were held by Serbia.

“We’re very close now,” said Jan, back at the Training Centre and preparing for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Norwich City.

“We have a strong mentality now. The pressure is there because we have big players at big clubs, lot of pressure from the press and from ourselves as well, because we’ve (this group) never been to a tournament. I think we can deal with it as well.

“The country is behind us and it’s looking good for Belgium at the moment.”

So how would it feel to reach a first World Cup finals since 2002? “I couldn’t describe it, for me, I can’t even think of the words," added Jan.

“The first memory for me was the 1994 World Cup and to be there in Brazil would be awesome. I think I would probably cry, to be honest!

“It’s one of things I would love to achieve in my career and I’d be so happy.”
