The midfielder was given a rousing reception from all sides of the ground he graced for 11 years before the start of the game and again as he was substituted late on.
Jamie was still very much centre of attention afterwards where he admitted: "It was a nice reception, but you want to get a result and everyone is gutted because we felt we could get something.
"That was the disappointing thing, we didn't get a result. It was an open game and we looked like we could get a draw.
"When we got back to 1-1 I thought 'yes' but Michael pulled out a little bit of magic and we didn't get what we wanted.
"We're getting there though. That's two games, United and Liverpool, where I thought we deserved a point.
"That is the disappointing thing but that shows how far we've come. And I think we can do better as well."
Jamie Redknapp appreciated his reception at Anfield but couldn't hide his disappointment at coming away with nothing.
