The club captain has made three substitute appearances in the Premiership after building up his fitness in the reserves since February.
His last start for the first team was the home defeat by Southampton back in September after which he underwent knee surgery.
"Jamie could start," said David. "He came on as substitute for the third time last week and did well.
"He came on against Newcastle and had an influence, came on at Manchester United when it was 1-0 but we didn't look like getting an equaliser and then came on last week and definitely had an influence. Now he could start."
David Pleat has hinted that Jamie Redknapp could be in line for his first start in six months against Chelsea on Saturday.
