The skipper heard the news that the current coach of the French national team was to take charge on television yesterday evening and is happy that the management structure is now in place to take the club forward in the new season.
"I was really pleased when I heard it," reflected Jamie this morning. "There has obviously been a lot of looking around and you were hoping it would reach a conclusion. It all then happened quite quickly and I put on the TV and we had a new coach in place.
"The papers usually seem to pick up on what is going on and Santini was mentioned so I thought something was getting closer."
Jamie is aware of the track record of the former Lyon coach and says one of our strikers can provide the inside track.
"I believe he was a fantastic player for St Etienne in the 70s and 80s - they were a great side. He has since become a top manager, he made his name at Lyon and Fredi Kanoute worked with him there. I'm sure he will be able to give us an insight into him.
"He is the manager of France and the moment and I think it is quite a good sign that he is working with those sort of players.
"There will definitely be anticipation among the players going into pre-season. We are all looking forward to it and we know what is happening now. Everyone will come back really sharp ready for pre-season and that is important."
Jamie Redknapp has welcomed the appointment of Jacques Santini and says there will be a big sense of anticipation as pre-season draws closer.
