The midfielder reported last week that he was hopeful of a return for the second string after making good progress in his recovery from knee surgery that he seen him out of action since September 20. However, after just a short spell back in training, it has been decided to delay his playing comeback for a short while.
"Perhaps I was a bit presumptious, but I was just eager to get back," said Jamie on his return prediction. "I wanted to play and the knee feels fine, but the staff want to put the breaks on me slightly because I've only had five days back in full training. I'm determined to play as soon as possible."
David Pleat added that he expects Jamie to be back playing very soon, but has decided to veer on the side of caution tonight.
"We decided to be cautious with Jamie's recovery," commented the acting boss. "He's worked very hard in training after an operation and we are not in the greatest hurry to put him back into action when he's training steadily. We'll wait a few more days before putting him into competitive reserve team action."
Meanwhile, Christian Ziege does feature for the reserves against Pompey after having the stitches removed from the cut above his eye sustained against Coventry two weeks ago. He is joined in the side by Bobby Zamora, Goran Bunjevcevic and Rohan Ricketts.
Squad: Hirschfeld, Eyre, Ifil, McKie, Kelly, Bunjevcevic, Blondel, Yeates, Ricketts, Hughes, Barnard, Slabber, Foster, O'Hara, Ziege, Zamora.
Jamie Redknapp will not feature for the reserves against Portsmouth at Stevenage tonight.
