The England playmaker effectively replaced our newest recruit in the Liverpool team when the then club captain suffered the knee injury that forced him to miss all of last season.
Gerrard now comes to White Hart Lane on Saturday as the Reds chase full points in a bid to hunt down Arsenal and stay ahead of Manchester United in the title race.
The pair did not get to play together too much in matches, but Jamie saw enough on a daily basis to make an assessment on the star that England hope will match the world's best in Japan and South Korea.
"Obviously I trained a lot with him and he is a good footballer," said Jamie.
"He has a bit of everything and the thing is he is very quick. I think that is his main asset and is the asset that makes him different.
"There are a lot of midfield players that are good players, but I think the difference with Vieira, Keane and Stevie is that they are quick, they've got that pace.
"That is what makes the difference in many ways. He can do everything as well, but if you can do it at pace you've got a yard on everyone else."
