The pair only reunited this week, with Christian away at the end of the season and then given extended leave due to his summer exertions.
Even though they did not play in the same Liverpool team, Jamie was still the club captain and certainly has the respect and admiration of Christian.
"For me personally I was glad to hear he was here," said the German. "In my season at Liverpool Jamie was always a nice fella and a great skipper - even though he didn't play so much while I was there.
"He's a nice lad and I think he's a good footballer. He might need a bit of time, but he is a good player."
Christian adds that Jamie's passing range and vision will ensure that he fits in as a Spurs player.
"I think a player of his style you can always play with. I hope everything goes well for him."
While Christian Ziege was in Germany battling to save his World Cup dream following an ankle injury sustained at the back end of last season he was cheered by some news from Spurs - the signing of his former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp.
