Jake Livermore says the best thing about his night was getting the minutes on the pitch he needs before the start of the coming season.
The 19-year-old midfielder may have scored an equaliser against European Champions Barcelona at the ‘Home of Football' on the same day he signed a new two-year contract at the Club.
But after the injury nightmare that was 2008-09, the local lad is just relishing every minute he spends on the pitch.
A broken leg sustained during a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra and subsequent setbacks halted Jake's progress last term.
So now he cannot wait for the coming campaign to start - especially after the impact he has made during First Team friendlies so far this summer.
After scoring a dream goal, Jake said: "It was good to get some game time under by belt and it's been good day all in all for me, and a good start to pre-season in general.
"Things are looking up at the moment, but the main thing for me now is to just stay injury free, and whatever happens at the start of the season happens.
"Either way, I look forward to it. I'm feeling good and fit, and just looking forward to the start of the season now."
