Head Coach Jacques reiterated afterwards how difficult preparations had been for the first competitive fixture under his charge as the club embraced a new continental-style management structure in the summer.
With injuries robbing Jacques of the services of the likes of Simon Davies, Anthony Gardner, Robbie Keane and seven debutants on the day - six starting - it was no surprise he was pleased with we came back into the game after the break.
Liverpool dictated the first half and led through Djibril Cisse but few would argue that we deserved Jermain Defoe's equaliser in the 71st minute.
"We had a difficult preparation and for the first match we played a very good team in Liverpool," reflected Jacques.
"It is only the first game for us but I think it will be a difficult season because it is a new team with a new coach and to prepare for this season we needed many weeks or months.
"But I am confident after I watched how my team played together in the second half."
Jacques Santini took encouragement from our second half display as we grabbed a draw against Liverpool on the Premiership's opening day.
