Jackson stakes his claim

Posted on 28 December 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat says that Johnnie Jackson can see the opportunity for a continued run in the side following his Premiership debut for the club at Portsmouth on Boxing Day.

The midfielder, 21, was called back from a loan spell at Coventry earlier in the week, drafted into the squad for the trip south and awarded a senior start in which David felt he acquitted himself well on the left of midfield.

With Paul Konchesky back at Charlton, Christian Ziege still out and a number of midfield absentees, there is certainly the chance for the Academy product to stake his first team claim.

"He has got a nice left foot and is a hard working boy," said David. "We had to push him in against Portsmouth as we lost Anderton and Konchesky and have got Redknapp and Simon Davies out. We are a little bereft in midfield.

"That is the way we are and he can see the opportunities. He can hold his head up, he didn't hide from the ball and looked for it. I had to call him back from Coventry after we lost Konchesky and now suspensions kick in as well.

"He may now get a continued run as we are not that well off for left-sided players."
