Jacko's back

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

There is finally light at the end of the tunnel for John Jackson.

Our talented young midfielder has returned in some style from a lengthy injury lay-off to excel for the reserves and win his first England Under-20 cap last week.

'Jacko' was ruled out from the start of this season until January with tendonitis in both knees.

That problem seems to have been overcome and the 19-year-old has flourished in his central midfield role in recent reserve matches - setting up a goal at Leicester City and scoring at Charlton last week.

"Things finally seem to be going forward," reflected Jacko at the weekend. "It's been a tough season for me but it's coming together at last.

"I'm gradually working my way back into it, I feel okay and the knees seem to have coped so far. I haven't had any trouble with them so hopefully that will be the end of it.

"All I can do now is continue to work hard and try to play well for the reserves. We've still a few games left and I'm looking forward to them."

Most satisfying though for Jacko and the medical team who nursed him back to full fitness must be his latest international call.

He played 45 minutes in England U20s comfortable 3-0 win against Finland at Bolton's Reebok Stadium on Wednesday.

"I must have been the only player in the starting line-up who hasn't made his league debut," reflected an upbeat Jacko. "I was on stand-by originally but got the call-up and then started.

"It was a strong team with the likes of Kevin Nolan (Bolton) and Peter Clarke (Everton) who have done superbly at their Premiership clubs. It's the next step for me and I was delighted."

The next international target for Jacko, who earned 10 caps at Under-18 level, is a friendly against Portugal and then the famous Toulon tournament in France in May.

"All I can do is play as well as I can here and hope to be involved," he added. "After the start to the season I had, it would be a great way to end it."
