Iversen welcomes competition

Posted on 14 August 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Steffen Iversen says he would welcome the competition of another striker in the squad.

It's no secret that a forward has been, and still is, top of Glenn Hoddle's shopping list this summer and Qu Bo's imminent arrival, subject to a work permit, will further boost his attacking options.

Norwegian star Steffen has always advocated a pool of strikers and feels he has suffered from lack rest in the past, especially when he's had a busy international schedule as well.

On target against Celtic last week, Steffen said: "We've got a lot of good strikers here and if we get another one it will be more competition. That is healthy for us.

"It is always good for a team to get a new player in and for us, if it's a striker, it will be good for us.

"In a whole season you need rest, you can't just play every game throughout.

"You need a big squad where you can rotate a little. You want to play every game but you can't, there are too many.

"I've been inujured because of that before so for me it's about staying fit and when I am tired or not feeling the best, hopefully someone else can step in."

Steffen has been reasonably pleased with his pre-season.

"It's been going okay," he added. "I've been scoring a few goals,. I could still improve a bit on my fitness, I felt a bit tired towards the end asgainst Celtic, but that will come."
