The Norwegian hitman has been out for almost four months after two operations on his knee - the first to sort out cartilage trouble, the second to remove cysts.
Iversen has stepped up training in recent weeks and took part in a practice match with the reserves on Monday.
Our top scorer for the last two seasons, the 24-year-old is now looking to banish injuries for good and start his season again this weekend.
He revealed: "I joined in with a game with the reserves and it feels quite good. My knee feels almost 100 per cent now so I’m looking forward to getting back into training and back to full fitness.
"I’m still hoping to be on the bench on Saturday but it will all depend who is available for the weekend. I’ve taken it very easy up to now and it feels good so I will see how it progresses further.
"My fitness isn’t the best yet but I’ve another few days to go and if I feel well enough to be on the bench hopefully I can.
"It would be great if I was fit enough to be in the squad against Stockport, just to be with the lads, hopefully on the bench and to come on for a few minutes. We’ll see how it goes this week and if it progresses the way it has been, I’ll have a good chance."
