Iversen looks ahead

English Barclays Premiership

Steffen Iversen is delighted to commit himself to Spurs for another four years. Our director of football David Pleat confirmed last week that we had sorted out a new deal for the striker that would keep him at the Lane until 2006. Rumours from Norway suggested that the deal made Iversen the highest paid Norwegian footballer in the world.

The 23-year-old is certainly one of the hottest properties in the Premiership. Top scorer at the Lane for the last two seasons, Iversen was the only player last season to score in every competition - the Premiership, FA Cup, Worthington Cup, UEFA Cup and the European Championships.

Preparing to hook up with Norway again later this week, Iversen enthused: "I want to be here and that's why I'm signing a new deal.

"It's another four years and I'm looking forward to it very much because we have a good team now, we have a good squad and maybe a couple more players and we'll be there.

"I have a good feeling for this season though because the whole team is fit, we don't have injuries to key players and the squad is bigger.

"We have a much stronger squad than last year and if we can all stay fit and leave all the long-term injures with other teams then I'm sure we can have a very good season."
