The Irish contingent at Spurs had plenty to smile about after yesterday's friendly win against Norway.
With Chris Hughton looking on in his role as Ireland's assistant boss, Stephen Carr and Robbie Keane both played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win against a Norwegian side including their team-mate Steffen Iversen.
And the Spurs pair were heavily involved in Damien Duff's winning goal in the first half as Robbie controlled a long ball before laying it off for Stephen, who crossed for Duff to score at the second attempt.
Robbie tested Frode Olsen in the Norway goal a few times and Stephen came closest to adding to the scoreline when he hit the underside of the crossbar in the second half.
But the night got off to a great start for the Republic with the news that Georgia had beaten Russia 1-0 in Tbilisi to leave their Euro 2004 Group wide open.
With their next three qualifiers all at home, that result gives the Republic a realistic chance of claiming runners-up spot in the group and an outside chance of booking their place in Portugal next summer by winning it.
