Michael Stern first stepped into White Hart Lane during the Second World War - he's been a Spurs fan ever since.

Our latest Hotspur Hero recently celebrated his 80th birthday and over 70 years as a Spurs fan.

That first date at the Lane is etched into his memory - November 25, 1944 - when goals from Sonny Walters and Pat Beasley (a guest from Huddersfield) secured a 2-1 win. "I remember paying 7d, we beat Fulham 2-1 and after that, I was a Spurs supporter for life," he said.

With over 70 years of Spurs memories and having witnessed some of the best Spurs teams of all-time, Michael spoke in glowing turns about Arthur Rowe's 'push and run' team that won the Division Two title in 1949-50 before landing the big one, the First Division championship for the first time in 1950-51.

"That was a fantastic team," recalled Michael, a Season Ticket Holder for over 50 years. "We went up 49-50 and our first game was against Blackpool, lost 4-2 and we all thought 'we're never going to stay up in this division' but after that, we played brilliantly.

"I remember we beat Poertsmouth 5-1, Stoke 6-1 and Newcastle, who at that time were one of the best teams around, we beat them 7-0! That was a wonderful, wonderful team."

Nominated by his daughter Elaine, also a Season Ticket Holder, Michael was presented with a special, framed signed shirt by one of his favourites, double-winning winger Cliff Jones, ahead of Sunday's match against Chelsea.
