INTO THE VALLEY (AGAIN)

Clive Allen is aiming for a quick fire double at the Valley as our reserves take on reigning champions Charlton in the FA Premier Reserve League tonight.

Our second string have won three and drawn one of their four games so far as the two remaining unbeaten sides in the Southern section go head to head. Charlton have won four and drawn one of their matches and have yet to concede a goal.

Clive's squad have been inactive since a fine performance to topple Fulham 2-0 on September 12 and he admits that isn't ideal preparation for such a match.

"We've had a couple of weeks since the performance against Fulham last time and at times that can difficult," said Clive, reserve coach and part of our first team coaching staff that enjoyed Saturday's 3-2 Premiership win at the Valley.

We've managed to get one practice match in but couldn't arrange one last week so a two-week break from matches isn't ideal

But we've kept up fitness levels, worked very hard and at least it's enabled us to look at different aspects of training, tailoring it to some of the individual's needs. Hopefully we'll see that work pay off at Charlton.

After the inactive period it's quite a spell now for Clive's group, champions Charlton tonight (7pm), old foes Arsenal at Stevenage on Monday week (October 10, 7pm) and a trip to West Ham on October 18.

"We have a run of three excellent games now and you can sense the lads' anticipation of getting back into action, " added Clive.

"I've been delighted with how we've started. The evidence of that is the managers watching the lads and the number who have gone out on loan. That's vitally important for their development."

We'll have our squad for tonight later...
