As usual for his country, Ben lined up on the left side of a back three and played his part in keeping a clean sheet in Group D.
In the same group, Kevin Wimmer sat on Austria’s bench as they secured a 2-1 victory away to Georgia.
Elsewhere on Monday, goalkeeper Pau Lopez had an eventful outing between the sticks for Spain Under-21s away to Sweden in European Under-21 Championship qualifying. After seeing his side take the lead through Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu, he was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box with six minutes remaining and found himself facing a penalty. The spot kick was struck against the woodwork but less than two minutes later Sweden equalised by virtue of a Mikel Merino own goal, with the game ending 1-1.
Meanwhile, young defender Jaden Brown was on the scoresheet for England Under-18s in their 5-1 win over Israel at Morecambe. The left-back netted goal number five for the Young Lions in the 74th minute. He completed the full-game along with Spurs colleague Jon Dinzeyi, who made his Under-18s international debut at centre-half.
On Sunday night, Nabil Bentaleb, currently on loan at Schalke, played for Algeria in their 6-0 home victory over Lesotho in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
