Internationals - Harry on target for England

Posted on 5 September 2015  - 19:09

Harry Kane stepped off the bench to score his second senior England goal in only his third game for the Three Lions as Roy Hodgson’s men beat San Marino 6-0 to rubber-stamp their place at Euro 2016 on Saturday (September 5).

Our young front man went on as a 58th-minute substitute in place of Wayne Rooney, who earlier in the game had equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time England goalscoring record of 49, as his nation controlled proceedings at San Marino Stadium in Serravalle.

And in the 77th minute, he latched onto a through ball from Jonjo Shelvey and deftly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini from the right side of the box to put his side 5-0 up.

A Rooney penalty, a Cristian Brolli own goal and further strikes from Ross Barkley and Theo Walcott (2) accounted for the rest of England’s goals in the European qualifier as they made it seven wins out of seven in Group E – thus assuring themselves of a place in the tournament finals in France next summer.

Ryan Mason was an unused substitute for England on the day.
