Christian Eriksen notched a goal and an assist to help Denmark see off Mexico in their final match before the start of the World Cup on Saturday.

The midfielder set up Yussuf Poulsen to open the scoring in the 71st minute in Brondby, before adding his own name to the scoresheet with a near-post shot three minutes later.

He was substituted in stoppage time as his nation saw out their 2-0 victory.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Hugo Lloris and France were held to a 1-1 draw at home to USA, for whom young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers featured at the back. Hugo and Cameron both played the full game as Julian Green’s first-half opener for the States was cancelled out by Kylian Mbappe 12 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, young defensive midfielder Maxi Tainio has been with Finland’s Under-18s for their Baltic Cup campaign this week. Previously an Under-17 international, he made his Under-18s debut from the start against Lithuania on Wednesday, playing 69 minutes in a 2-1 defeat.

Not in the squad for Finland’s 3-0 victory over Estonia the following day, he was on the bench on Saturday as the campaign ended with a 1-0 loss to Latvia.

The last pre-World Cup friendlies for our players take place on Monday night as Belgium – with Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen in their squad – take on Costa Rica and Heung-Min Son’s South Korea face Senegal.
