Left-back Danny completed a full 90-minute shift at Leeds United’s Elland Road – the place he used to call home before his move to North London in 2007 – while right-back Kieran and midfielder Dele were introduced in the 64th minute as manager Gareth Southgate rung the changes.

Dele provided the assist for Danny Welbeck’s goal on 76 minutes, with Marcus Rashford having earlier fired the Three Lions ahead.

Harry Kane and Eric Dier were unused substitutes on the night.

England fly off to Russia early next week ahead of their first match at the World Cup against Tunisia on Monday 18 June.

Elsewhere on Thursday, Heung-Min Son came off the bench for the last half-an-hour as South Korea continued their World Cup preparations with a goalless draw with Bolivia in Austria.

Wednesday’s action saw Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen keep another clean sheet for Belgium as they breezed past Egypt 3-0 in Brussels. Both defenders started the game, with Jan withdrawn nine minutes from time. Mousa Dembele remained on the bench.
