In the late-afternoon kick-off, Serge was part of the Ivory Coast side that lost 2-0 at home to Morocco in their final group stage match in the African qualifying section.
Victory would have taken Ivory Coast through as winners of their group, but Morocco were able to hold onto top spot and punch their ticket to the finals at the expense of their hosts.
Serge, who went close to reducing the arrears in the second half, only to fire over the bar, completed the full 90 minutes.
Midfielder Christian, meanwhile, lined up for Denmark as they drew 0-0 with Republic of Ireland in the first leg of their qualifying play-off in Copenhagen. It means it’s winner-takes-all between the two nations when they reconvene for the second leg in Dublin on Tuesday night, although the Danes can take heart from the fact that they’ve prevented their opponents from grabbing a potentially-decisive away goal.
Elsewhere on Saturday, young centre-back Japhet Tanganga once again put in a full shift for England Under-19s as they beat Iceland 2-1 in Bulgaria to maintain their 100 per cent start to European Under-19 Championship qualifying.
With two wins from their first two games, England are already through to March’s Elite Round qualifiers and will now battle it out with Bulgaria on Tuesday for top spot in their group.
