Internationals - Cameron on target, clean sheet for Tom

Posted on 4 October 2015  - 10:33

Young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was on the scoresheet for the USA Under-23 side in their 6-1 win over Cuba in the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship on Saturday.

The centre-half opened the scoring with a header from a free-kick in the Group A clash in Kansas City, with the States going on to secure their place in the semi-finals of the competition with one game to spare thanks to a comprehensive victory.

That followed on from Thursday’s 3-1 win against Canada – a game in which Cameron also featured.

Cameron now heads for territory that’s very familiar to us, with the States facing Panama on Tuesday (October 6) at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado – the site of our prestigious match against the MLS All-Stars back in July.

A win or draw against Panama would guarantee the USA top spot in Group A.

Elsewhere, our young goalkeeper Tom Glover kept a clean sheet to help Australia Under-19s register a 6-0 victory over the Philippines in their AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifiers opener in Laos on Friday.

The Young Socceroos play host nation Laos today (Sunday, October 4) before taking on Japan on Tuesday.
