Internationals - Argentina fall at final hurdle

Posted on 5 July 2015  - 08:51

Erik Lamela’s Argentina suffered penalty shootout heartbreak in Saturday evening’s Copa America Final.

Taking on host nation Chile, Gerardo Martino’s side was unable to break the deadlock in 90 minutes and with their opponents also failing to score, the match went into extra time. It remained 0-0 until the end of the additional period, so penalties were required to decide the destination of the silverware.

It was Chile who ultimately triumphed by four penalties to one, the hosts converting all their spot kicks while Gonzalo Higuain and Ever Banega missed for Argentina.

Erik remained an unused substitute for the Final.

The next international action involving one of our players is in the early hours of Wednesday morning (July 8), with DeAndre Yedlin in the USA squad for their CONCACAF Gold Cup opener against Honduras in Texas. Kick-off is at 2.30am UK time.
