WE MIGHT have lost a host of players to internationals, but the work still goes on in earnest at the Lodge ahead of the big kick-off on Saturday.
After the usual stretches and warm-ups on Monday, the squad split into defenders and midfielders/forwards for specific exercises, including a shooting and crossing drill for the midfielders and forwards.
The squad then came together for a match over a smaller-sized pitch.
Tuesday followed a similar pattern, with warm-ups and stretches first before the squad as one went through a crossing and shooting drills, including one where crosses were hit into target man Peter Crouch, who would knock them down for the lads to run onto and shoot.
From there, the lads were paired up for a high tempo one-on-one session over a pitch of no more than 30 metres. The players could use their team-mates around the sides of the pitch to play one-twos with and it was all about both defending and attacking in that one-on-one situation, all over short, sharp one-minute periods.
After that it went to two-on-two, same rules, again with goalkeepers in.
