England were in the driving seat early in Cork with goals from West Ham's Mark Noble (2) and Newcastle's James Milner. It was 3-0 at half-time and stayed that way.

It means England have kicked off Group Three with four wins out of four.

Younes Kaboul also played 90 minutes and captained the French U21 in a goalless draw in Romania. France also top their group with 11 points from five games, Romania are second.

WEDNESDAY ACTION

Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe travel to Moscow to face Russia with England and an encounter with Sparktak Moscow's artificial surface. Kick-off 4pm.

Gareth Bale's Wales travel to San Marino, Robbie Keane's Republic of Ireland face Cyprus at home and Dimitar Berbatov's Bulgaria are in Albania.

Elsewhere, Didier Zokora is with the Ivory Coast for a friendly against Austria and Tomas Pekhart faces Armenia at home with Czech Under-21s.
