International round-up

Jermain Defoe came off the bench to score twice as England defeated Andorra 6-0 in a World Cup Qualifier at Wembley.

The striker entered the fray as a half-time substitute for Wayne Rooney, netting the fourth and fifth goals in a convincing win.

The victory takes the Three Lions 10 points clear at the top of Group Six with a place in South Africa virtually booked.

Fabio Capello's men were already 3-0 up thanks to a Rooney double and Frank Lampard's strike when JD was introduced.

His first was a neat header from Glen Johnson's cross on 73 minutes, and his second a tap-in after David Beckham's free-kick was parried out by the goalkeeper two minutes later.

Roman Pavlyuchenko was also in World Cup Qualifying action on Wednesday as a second-half substitute in Russia 3-0 win over Finland in Group Four.

Wilson Palacios played 90 minutes for Honduras as they got their qualification campaign back on track with a 1-0 win over El Salvador.

Likewise, Giovani Dos Santos came off the bench in the second half as Mexico moved back into the CONCACAF zone's play-off position with a 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago.
