Michael Dawson featured for the whole game as England under-21s recorded a 1-1 draw with Germany in European Championship qualifying.
The teams remain level at the top of Group 6 following the encounter in Mainz with both nations already assured of a place in the play-off draw.
Germany took the lead on 18 minutes through Stefan Kiessling, with Newcastle's Steven Taylor equalising on 44 minutes just after Dawson went close with a flicked header from a Peter Whittingham free-kick.
England's remaining group games are against Austria and Poland in October.
Elsewhere, Stephen Kelly played for the Republic of Ireland under-21s against France in Cork but his side were defeated 2-1 by France. Sunderland's on-loan Liverpool midfielder Anthony Le Tallec netted from the spot on 39 minutes after his Stadium of Light teammate Daryl Murphy shot the Republic into the lead six minutes earlier.
Substitute Bryan Bergougnoux scored the winner 20 minutes from time. The Republic are out of contention for a place in the finals after a seven-match sequence without a win.
