Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone helped England edge closer to a place in the European U21 Championship play-offs with a 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night.

Tom earned his 25th cap and played 79 minutes in central midfield at Southampton while Aaron was capped for only the third time at this level and put in a full shift on the right side of a front three. Jamie O'Hara was on the bench but remained an unused substitute.

A double from James Milner and one from Theo Walcott secured the victory and means England need a point from their final group match against Portugal in September to go into the play-offs.

Younes Kaboul was also involved in Under-21 action for France as they were defeated 2-0 by their Spanish counterparts in a friendly in Benidorm.

WEDNESDAY'S ACTION

We have five players on senior international duty on Wednesday with Robbie Keane set to skipper his Republic of Ireland side against Brazil at Croke Park.
