International round-up: Defeats for Lloris, Holtby & England trio

Posted on 10 June 2013  - 10:40

The season has finally came to a close for Hugo Lloris, while Lewis Holtby, Steven Caulker, Adam Smith and Danny Rose have one fixture remaining before they can look forward to their holidays.

But while our players will undoubtedly be pleased to have some time off, all five were on losing teams in their matches over the weekend.

Goals from Oscar, Hernanes and Luca Moura handed Brazil a 3-0 win over Hugo and France at the Maracana stadium as Luiz Felipe Scolari's side prepare to host the Confederations Cup.

Brazil dominated the match and took the lead through Oscar in the 54th minute, with Lloris keeping his team in the match with a crucial double block from Fred and then Naymar soon after.

But he could do nothing to stop Hernanes' curled effort and Lucas wrapped up the win from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

In the Under-21s European Championship, Holtby, Caulker, Rose and Smith suffered losses with Germany and England to eliminate both sides from the tournament.

Lewis captained the Germans but was powerless to stop Spain securing a 1-0 win with a late goal from Alvaro Morata, while our English trio went down 3-1 to Norway in Petah Tikva.

Germany will take on Russia in their final game of the tournament while England will play the hosts, Israel.
