International round-up

Giovani dos Santos and Mexico were a minute away from beating world champions Spain on Wednesday.

In-form Gio played 65 minutes and saw his side take a 12th-minute lead through Manchester United's summer capture Javier Hernandez.

They looked on for a famous friendly win at the Azteca Stadium until David Silva, now of Manchester City, struck in the 90th minute.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Sebastien Bassong both played 90 minutes as Cameroon recovered from a disappointing World Cup with an impressive 3-0 win over Poland in Szczecin.

Roman Pavlyuchenko also tasted victory as he played the second half in Russia's 1-0 defeat of Bulgaria in St Petersburg.

And our Croatian trio - Vedran Corluka, Niko Kranjcar and Luka Modric - all featured in their national team's 1-1 draw with Slovakia in Bratislava.
