OJ Mabizela's South Africa got their 2006 World Cup qualification quest back on track with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in Johannesburg on Saturday.

After a fortunate 2-1 home win over Cape Verde Islands and 3-0 defeat in Ghana last month, first half goals from two European-based stars, midfielder Steven Pienaar and striker Shaun Bartlett secured victory after three rounds of Group 2 action.

"I thought the team played well, especially the defence, with centrebacks Aaron Mokoena and Mbulelo Mabizela outstanding," said coach Stuart Baxter.

Elsewhere, Fredi Kanoute's Mali suffered a 1-0 defeat World Cup defeat to Congo, while Helder Postiga was an unused substitute as Portugal fell to a 1-0 reverse to Greece in the final of Euro 2004.
