International round-up

Posted on 5 February 2013  - 12:59

Adam Smith and Kenny McEvoy are first up as our players travel far and wide on international duty this week.

International round-up

Full-back Adam, in fine form on loan at Millwall, is in England Under-21 squad for the friendly against Sweden at Walsall's Bescott Stadium.

Tricky young winger Kenny is with the Republic of Ireland Under-19s for a home friendly against the Czech Republic.

We've nine senior internationals in action on Wednesday.

Clint Dempsey has furthest to travel and the most important match as the USA travel to Honduras in the first match of the final phase of World Cup qualifying in the North, Central and Caribbean zone.

Six countries - USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica and Panama - play each other home and away and the top three will progress straight to Brazil, 2014. The fourth-placed team face a play-off.

Otherwise, it's friendly action for our players with the highlight England's meeting against Brazil - Aaron Lennon and Kyle Walker in the England squad - while Hugo Lloris and France take on Germany.

Here are the senior internationals:

Benoit Assou-Ekotto - Tanzania v Cameroon
Gareth Bale - Wales v Austria
Mousa Dembele/Jan Vertonghen - Belgium v Slovakia
Clint Dempsey - Honduras v USA
Aaron Lennon/Kyle Walker - England v Brazil
Hugo Lloris - France v Germany
Gylfi Sigurdsson - Iceland v Russia

Good news from the Academy as well - Harry Winks has been called into the England Under-17 squad for the Algarve Tournament, where England face Germany, Portugal and Holland. Connor Ogilvie is also in the squad. England's first match is against Germany on Thursday, followed by Portugal on Sunday and Holland on Tuesday.
