Internationals - all the action so far as England win and Davinson beats Hugo

Fri 23 March 2018, 22:16|Tottenham Hotspur

Our players were at the centre of the international action on Friday night as our England contingent tasted victory in Amsterdam, while Hugo Lloris and France let slip a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home to a Colombia side that included centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

Kieran Trippier went close to opening his England goalscoring account in only his fourth appearance for the Three Lions with a rasping second-half shot that was well saved by goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet during a 1-0 friendly victory over the Netherlands.

The all-action right-back completed the full game, Danny Rose played 71 minutes while Dele Alli and Eric Dier stepped off the bench in the latter stages as all four of our players in the squad saw action, with Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard bagging the winner.

In Paris, Hugo and Davinson found themselves on opposite sides as France hosted Colombia. Both played the full game for their respective nations as the visitors came back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory.

Elsewhere on Friday, 21-year-old winger Anthony Georgiou made his senior international debut for Cyprus as they played host to Montenegro in a friendly.

Back at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, the scene of his first team debut for us in a 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over APOEL in September last year, Anthony played from the start as the two sides battled out a goalless draw.

Meanwhile, Academy defender TJ Eyoma went on as a late substitute for England Under-18s as they picked up their second victory of the week with a 2-1 triumph over Argentina at Manchester City’s Academy Stadium. Midfielder Oliver Skipp was an unused substitute on this occasion, although both players completed the full 90 minutes of a 4-0 win over Qatar at St George’s Park on Wednesday.

Thursday’s action saw defender Ben Davies complete 70 minutes for Wales in a 6-0 victory in China, in a friendly tournament known as the China Cup. They’ll now take on Uruguay on Monday lunchtime in the final. Christian Eriksen also tasted victory, playing 64 minutes in a 1-0 home win over Panama, as did young midfielder Marcus Edwards, currently on loan at Norwich City, who played for just over an hour in a 1-0 triumph for England Under-20s in Poland.

On Wednesday, in addition to Eyoma and Skipp’s outings for England’s youth set-up, centre-back Japhet Tanganga put in a full shift for the Young Lions’ Under-19s as they got their European Under-19 Championship elite round qualifiers off to a fantastic start in Macedonia with a 4-1 victory over Hungary. Also, young striker Troy Parrot went on as a 52nd-minute substitute for Republic of Ireland Under-17s in a 3-0 European Under-17 Championship qualifying victory over Macedonia in Poland.
