Euro 2016 qualifying is on the agenda for several players, including Ben Davies, who is part of a Wales squad on the brink of history in Group B.
They need just two points from their matches away to Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, October 10, and at home to Andorra on Tuesday, October 13, to secure qualification for their first tournament finals since the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
Belgium are currently second in the same group and, with Toby Alderweireld, Nacer Chadli and Jan Vertonghen in their ranks, they’ll be looking to make sure of their place at the tournament finals with matches away to Andorra and at home to Israel on the aforementioned match dates.
In Group E, England have already booked their ticket to France next summer but, with a squad including Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker, they’ll round off their qualifying programme with matches at home to Estonia on Friday, October 9, and away to Lithuania on Monday, October 12.
On the same dates, Kevin Wimmer’s Austria, who have also qualified already, are away to Montenegro and at home to Liechtenstein in Group G.
Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, is with the Denmark squad for an away Group I qualifier against Portugal on Thursday, October 8. The Danes are assured of at least a place in the play-offs, but they’ll be keen to consolidate a spot in the top two in order to secure automatic progress into the finals.
Denmark then host a France side featuring Hugo Lloris in a friendly on Sunday, October 11, with Les Bleus warming up for that game with a home friendly against Armenia on Thursday, October 8.
In qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Erik Lamela has been named in Argentina’s squad for a home match against Ecuador in the early hours of Friday, October 9, followed by an away trip to Paraguay in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14.
Elsewhere, Clinton Njie is with Cameroon for an away friendly against Nigeria on Sunday, October 11, while DeAndre Yedlin – currently on loan at Sunderland – has been named in the USA squad for their winner-takes-all CONCACAF Cup clash with Mexico in California in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, which grants the victors a spot in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The States then host Costa Rica in a friendly on Tuesday, October 13.
UNDER-21 AND YOUTH INTERNATIONALS
Eric Dier has been named in the England Under-21s squad for a home European qualifier against Kazakhstan on Tuesday, October 13, while Harry Winks (pictured, below) and attacking midfielder Nathan Oduwa, currently on loan at Rangers, are included in the England Under-20s group for the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup in Germany, where the Young Lions will face the Netherlands (Wednesday, October 7), Turkey (Saturday, October 10) and Germany (Tuesday, October 13).
Full-back Kyle Walker-Peters has joined the England Under-19s squad alongside Josh Onomah for a trio of European qualifiers against Macedonia (Thursday, October 8), Finland (Saturday, October 10) and Italy (Tuesday, October 13), while Milos Veljkovic is with Serbia Under-21s for back-to-back European qualifiers at home to Andorra on Wednesday, October 7, and away to Lithuania on Tuesday, October 13.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and the USA Under-23s round off their group stage campaign at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship with a match against Panama at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado – the site of our prestigious friendly against the MLS All-Stars back in July – today (Tuesday, October 6), with the States already assured of a place in the semi-finals, which take place on Saturday, October 10.
Winger Kenny McEvoy, currently on loan at Stevenage, has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad ahead of European qualifiers at home to Lithuania on Friday, October 9, and away to Italy on Tuesday, October 13, while goalkeeper Tom Glover is in the Australia Under-19s squad for their third and final AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifier of the month against Japan today (Tuesday, October 6), having been on the bench for Sunday’s 2-0 win over Laos.
Chris Paul and Charlie Owens are with Northern Ireland Under-19s for back-to-back away friendlies against Iceland on Friday, October 9, and Sunday, October 11, while Jack Roles and Cyprus Under-19s face home European qualifiers against Luxembourg (Sunday, October 11), Poland (Tuesday, October 13) and Bulgaria (Friday, October 16).
Finally, Marcus Edwards, Kazaiah Sterling and Alfie Whiteman have been named in the England Under-17s squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile later this month.
Ahead of the tournament, they’ll face friendlies against DR Congo on Wednesday, October 7, and Chile on Sunday, October 11.
England will be up against Guinea (Saturday, October 17), Brazil (Tuesday, October 20) and South Korea (Friday, October 23) in the group stage of the tournament when it gets underway.
