Spurs Ladies's six match unbeaten run came to an end with the team losing 2-3 at home to Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.
Despite having to make a number of changes to the starting line-up due to injuries, Karen Hills' team controlled possession in the opening stages and created plenty of chances without managing to make the breakthrough.
But the pressure took its tool on Plymouth and the side took the lead in the 25th minute after an Emma Kayser through ball split the Argyle centre backs and Wendy Martin struck to make it 1-0.
Plymouth responded well with their midfield getting more involved in the game and when Spurs centre half Ebony Heath went down injured, Hills was forced to make an early change. This reshuffle enabled Argyle's pressure to finally be rewarded and they equalised shortly before half-time with a goal from Emily Mousley.
Natasha Knapman extended Plymouth's lead in the 63rd minute and made it 1-3 in the 77th after Spurs had pushed up the pitch in search of an equaliser.
Emma Plewa came close to reducing the deficit with her shot hitting the inside of the post, but it was the injured Kirsten Thompson's replacement, Derrie O'Halloran, who would deliver a ball into the Argyle box for Rosi Webb to flick in to give Spurs hope heading into the closing stages of the match.
Despite pushing for an equaliser, the goal did not come as Karen Hill's team fell to only their second defeat of the The FA Women's Premier League South season. The team now lie in fifth place in the table with 13 points, only two behind Colchester United in second position.
"There were changes made to the side which unbalanced the team and picking up injuries caused us to shuffle the team around. We did play some nice football in patches but it wasn't consistent throughout the game and that's something we need to work on," said Hills.
"We must regroup and work hard this week on the training pitch as we look forward to our next fixture away to West Ham."
The ladies face the Hammers in the Premier League South at Thurrock FC on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.
