Injuries pile up again

Posted on 29 December 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Injuries are taking a tight hold again at the Lane.
Tim Sherwood (knee) has joined Stephen Carr (groin) and Les Ferdinand (head) as big doubts for Saturday’s trip to Ipswich Town.
Steffen Iversen (knee), Steffen Freund (Achilles), Mauricio Taricco, Ben Thatcher (both groin) and Luke Young (foot) are all still out.
Manager George Graham confirmed: “Stephen Carr looks as if he’ll be struggling for Saturday, Tim Sherwood has picked up a knee injury as well and we don’t know if Les Ferdinand is going to be right.
“We’ve missed Les because he’s had a purple patch. He’s been outstanding. We missed him at Southampton and we’ll miss him again.
“The problem is we’ve got rid of so many players, 15 I think since I joined the club, but we’ve not replaced them. We’ve brought in nine players. I think we were right getting rid of the players but we’ve not replaced them numerically.
“We need another six players in there and I’ve said that all the time, just to get the numbers right.”
George admits he has yet to come to terms with the apparent injury jinx at the club.
He added: “I just to always smile a few years ago when I used to hear Gerry Francis, who has been a good manager, talking about the injuries here almost on a weekly basis. Now I’m going down the same route.
“We had all the injury problems a few years ago and I thought I’d help solve it but I can assured you I have not solved it.
“We’re still picking up long-term injuries to key players and I would say in the last two years the first team that I would have liked to select has rarely played together because of the injuries.”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
