In reserve

English Barclays Premiership

Another strong-looking reserve team will take the field in a friendly against Bishop’s Stortford on Wednesday night. Manager Chris Hughton has goalkeeper Ian Walker, defenders Ramon Vega and Mauricio Taricco and midfielder Stephen Clemence all pencilled in to start at Woodside Park Stadium.

Matthew Etherington should also be involved but Hughton will be without Luke Young, Simon Davies and Gary Doherty, who are all on international duty.

Hughton is determined to use the friendly to put a few things right after his side’s disappointing start to the FA Premier Reserve League — a 3-0 defeat at Coventry City last week.

“I’ll be looking at a few things, very much so,” said Hughton. “It was also a free week in effect, we don’t have an official reserve team game, so it’s good to take on good oppositison with good facilities and a decent pitch.

“We’ve also three or four first-team squad players who haven’t played in the first three games in the Premiership and this gives them an opportunity to get a run out.

“You don’t want to be without games at this stage. It’s important to keep the lads’ fitness going and things you want to work on and the opportunity to put them in practice comes in games. That’s where the end product is.”
