Clive Allen described our Spurs XI's friendly at Ipswich Town on Wednesday as 'the perfect exercise' with the start of the reserve league campaign just around the corner.

Danny Rose (pictured) scored a fine individual goal to put us ahead at the Suffolk club's training ground before goals from Kurt Robinson and Jordan Rhodes turned it around for Championship side, who ran out 2-1 winners.

The lads will now focus on their opening game in the Barclays Premier Reserve League South against West Brom at Leyton Orient FC on Monday, September 1, kick-off 7pm.

Development coach Clive gave us this rundown. "We started brightly and Danny scored an excellent goal after about three minutes.

"He picked up the ball just inside the Ipswich half and went on a strong run centrally, beat a defender on his left side and scored from about 25 yards.

"We came under pressure after that and Ben Alnwick made a couple of good saves in one on one situations before Ipswich equalised just before half-time.

"We picked up again in the second half and were pushing for a winner when we were caught on the counter-attack and went 2-1 down. We finished well and had a couple of chances to level but couldn't find that second goal.

"It was the perfect exercise for us and now we go into the real thing on Monday."
